Major Anti-Poverty Event Galway Oct. 16th

On Friday October 16th, the eve of the UN International Day for the Eradication of Poverty an important discussion on the new Irish and European Anti-Poverty Strategies will take place in the Portershed Galway, (15 Market St) starting at 9.30am. The initiative is supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Connecting Europe Initiative.
We have an outstanding list of speakers across the day including former President Michael D Higgins, former UN Special Rapporteur on Poverty & Human Rights Olivier DeSchutter, and current rapporteur on poverty in the European Parliament, Portugal’s Joao Oliveira. Lunch will be provided and plenty of time for discussion and debate. We will be looking at poverty in Ireland & Europe, what has worked, what is not working, how to put people experiencing poverty at the heart of the strategy in practice, not just on paper. After an introduction morning & afternoon the meeting will break into small workshops, with a report back to the plenary.
The event is particularly relevant to policy makers, community activities, civil society organisations, and especially those experiencing poverty & their organisations. If you would like to attend, please contact enquiries@eapn.ie as soon as possible as places are limited and spread the word.
